Esperanza, one of the bearded vultures released in Gredos in 2024, dies

On January 21, the signals from the transmitter indicated that Esperanza had not been moving for several hours, more than usual. She had been sleeping for several days in some small rocks that she used to frequent with other specimens. Shortly afterwards, the FCQ team detected her carcass on an inaccessible ledge.
His body was removed the following day by the team of environmental agents, specialized in work at heights, of the Junta de Castilla y León according to the official protocol. He was then sent to the Instituto de Investigacion en Recursos Cinegeticos (IREC-CSIC) in Ciudad Real where he underwent aupia. The veterinary doctor Ursula Höfle Hansen ruled that he had died as a consequence of the birth malformations that we knew he had. He was one of the four individuals released in June 2024.
